NOTES ON REFERRAL TO EAR, NOSE AND THROAT PHYSICIAN
It may be recommended that you or your child see an ENT physician (a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the nasal breathing system). This recommendation will be made on the basis of history, clinical exam, radiological evaluation, and nasal breathing study which is an integral part of our overall holistic health management program. My responsibilities to you or your child are to provide the highest quality of care based on my knowledge and experience in all related areas of medicine and dentistry. The evidence to support the position that upper airway obstruction adversely affects the health of children and adults is overwhelming. It is of interest to note that 97% of all North Carolina pediatricians responding to a questionnaire regarding upper airway obstruction replied that upper airway obstruction adversely affects the health of children and adults and 90% believe upper airway obstruction does adversely affect the developing jaws and face. In addition, 91% believe that tonsils and adenoids should be removed if they obstruct the airway, whereas, 93% believe that a deviated septum and/or enlarged turbinates can lead to mouth breathing (upper airway obstruction). 92 % believe control of airway obstruction is a medically indicated procedure. 90% of North Carolina ENT physicians responding to the same questionnaire agree nasal breathing is vitally important to good health and every effort should be made to provide and maintain a good breathing system. If you have any questions or need further information, please let me know. Sincerely yours,
Dr. Ernest Rider, D.D.S. |
