Do’s and Don’ts with Braces

Do- drink hot liquids and rinse with hot water as instructed!

Do- use wax on areas that are rubbing or sticking

Do- call our office if you notice loose or broken braces or wires

Do- chew sugarless gum after 24 hours of braces placement

Do- eat cooked or steamed vegetables

Do- drink sugar-free soft drinks (if you must). Most stores carry sugar-free ice cream, cookies, etc.

Do- drink Milk

Do- brush regularly (after each meal and snacks)

Do- floss

Do- use a fluoride treatment nightly

Do- use a Sonicare or Rotadent toothbrush (if recommended).

Do- shred carrots and slice apples thinly

Do- pull meat from the bone (ex: chicken, pork, ribs, etc.) Remove corn from the cob

No- CANDY (ex: Starburst, taffy, Skittles Snickers, Nuts, Peanut M&Ms, etc.)

No- SUGAR SOFT DRINKS

No- chewing on ice

No- hard foods such as bagels, French bread, hard tacos, Doritos, pretzels, nachos, etc.

No- Chewing on pencils or playing with your braces with your fingers.
