Types of Braces

Introduction

The science of orthodontic technology is ever advancing. Today Rider Orthodontics can provide our patients with multiple treatment options and more variations in choice of braces than ever before. Damon brackets, Speed brackets, Ceramic brackets are becoming increasingly popular along with invisible removable devices like Invisalign and Clear Aligners which can be used in cases with mild misalignment of front teeth.

We are always happy to discuss with you the TRUE benefit of each bracket type, however the truth be known "It is not the bracket but the orthodontist who produces the treatment result".

Please see below or ask us to learn more about the types of braces we offer at our office. You need to speak with Dr Rider to determine which appliance is right for you.

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces used today and produce the same result within the same time frame as the self- ligating brackets.

.

Self-ligating Brackets

Damon, Speed, Smart clip, Ovation

The main advantage of these brackets lies with the advertizing hype the competing companies plant in the minds of the public.

All self-ligating brackets have value to the orthodontist using them in that the placement and removal of the treatment wires is easily accomplished by the ancillary staff increasing the efficiency of the clinic enabling the orthodontist to treat more patients which is perfectly OK with me. The orthodontist is still responsible for the result, not the bracket

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have aesthetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces are larger than metal braces. The only drawback to ceramic brackets is that they are more fragile, and the elastic ties can discolor between orthodontic visits with certain foods and smoking.

Clear Braces

Invisalign:

Invisalign technology is but one of the multiple removable clear braces techniques available to treat minor tooth alignment problems for both teenagers and adults and contil;1ues to grow in popularity in general dentists offices.

Clear Aligners:

Clear Aligners are the major competitors of Invisalign using similar aligner technology but at a substantially lower cost to the consumer and orthodontist. Dr Rider favors the clear Aligner technique for those minor tooth alignment cases for patients who would like to avoid fixed braces.
